New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to host a two-day conference focused on modern election management and the enhancement of social media outreach with Chief Electoral Officers from all states and Union Territories on March 4 and 5, as confirmed by an official on Monday.

This event, taking place at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management in Delhi, marks the first significant initiative by the poll panel under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

For the first time, state Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) have been directed to appoint both a District Election Officer (DEO) and an Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) to participate in the conference. These statutory positions are vital within the State, District, and Assembly Constituency frameworks, according to the statement.

The two-day gathering will serve as a platform for election officials from various States and UTs to engage in brainstorming and share best practices based on their experiences.

On the first day, discussions will concentrate on pivotal aspects of modern election management, such as IT architecture, effective communication strategies, boosting social media engagement, and the legal responsibilities of different officials in the electoral process.

During the second day, CEOs from states and UTs will present their action plans based on the discussions held the previous day, as mentioned in the statement.

Recently, the Central government appointed Gyanesh Kumar as the new CEC, succeeding Rajiv Kumar.

Gyanesh Kumar, an IAS officer from the Kerala cadre of the 1988 batch, is senior to the other two commissioners on the three-member panel previously led by Rajiv Kumar.

He was appointed as an Election Commissioner in March 2024.

Rajiv Kumar's tenure, which lasted 4.5 years, was marked by significant yet understated reforms across various fields, including structural and technological enhancements, capacity building, communication improvements, international collaboration, and administrative advances.

During his term, Kumar successfully managed a complete electoral cycle, overseeing elections in 31 states and UTs, the Presidential and Vice-Presidential elections in 2022, the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, and Rajya Sabha renewals—a truly remarkable achievement in electoral management.
