Cairo, April 14 (NationPress) Egypt has strongly denounced the Israeli airstrike on the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, labeling the assault as a serious breach of international humanitarian law and all global standards.
In a declaration from its Foreign Ministry, Egypt has demanded an immediate cessation of all Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip and the prompt delivery of humanitarian and relief supplies into the beleaguered region, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Furthermore, it called upon the international community to implement decisive measures to end the hostilities, particularly in light of ongoing regional and global efforts aimed at de-escalation and the restoration of a ceasefire agreement.
Earlier on the same day, the Israeli military claimed it targeted “a Hamas command and control center” situated within the hospital premises.
A joint statement from the Israel Defense Forces and the Israel Security Agency indicated that Hamas operatives had been utilizing the facility to orchestrate attacks.
An anonymous medical staff member informed Xinhua that the Israeli military had issued an evacuation warning shortly before the strike occurred.
The strike affected the hospital's surgical operations department and an oxygen generation unit, causing extensive damage across several areas of the facility.
Israel terminated a ceasefire agreement with Hamas in January and resumed military operations in Gaza on March 18. Health authorities in Gaza reported on Sunday that the Palestinian death toll since the conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, has reached 50,944, with 116,156 individuals injured.
