Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 15 (NationPress) Elecon Engineering Company Limited, a leading manufacturer of industrial gearboxes and material handling equipment (MHE), reported a staggering 96% decline in its net profit, which fell to Rs 6 crore for the fourth quarter (Q4) of FY26. This sharp drop was primarily attributed to a significant exceptional loss recorded during the period.
In the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year (Q4 FY25), the company had achieved a net profit of Rs 146.48 crore, as revealed in its stock exchange filing.
The notable reduction in profit was heavily influenced by an exceptional loss of Rs 101.77 crore reported in the March quarter, a stark contrast to the absence of such a loss a year prior.
Moreover, revenue from operations also took a hit in this quarter, with Elecon Engineering reporting Rs 745.61 crore, which reflects a 6.51% decrease from Rs 797.57 crore in the same period the previous year.
Operating performance showed weakness as well. The company’s EBITDA dropped 19% year-on-year, declining to Rs 158 crore from Rs 195 crore, while margins contracted to 21.2% from 24.4% during the same quarter of the prior financial year.
Expenses for the fourth quarter were recorded at Rs 621 crore, compared to Rs 626.6 crore in the same period last year, according to the regulatory filing.
In response to the Q4 results, Prayasvin B. Patel, the Chairman and Managing Director of Elecon Engineering Company Limited, noted that the robust open order book, along with a positive order inflow outlook across various markets, offers promising visibility for the upcoming year.
“In India, ongoing investment activity in critical sectors like power, steel, and cement is anticipated to propel growth,” Patel emphasized.
