Srinagar, Sep 5 (NationPress) Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police S.P. Vaid strongly responded to remarks made by the ruling National Conference (NC) MLA and party spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq regarding the national emblem, which is engraved on an inauguration stone at Srinagar’s Hazratbal shrine.
Earlier on Friday, Tanvir Sadiq, who represents the Zadibal Assembly constituency, stated on X: “While I am not an expert in religious matters, in Islam, idol worship is considered strictly forbidden — one of the gravest sins. The foundation of our faith rests on Tawheed.
“The placement of a sculpted figure at the esteemed Hazratbal Dargah contradicts this fundamental belief. Sacred spaces should embody the purity of Tawheed and nothing else.”
S.P. Vaid took to X to criticize Tanvir Sadiq for his remarks regarding the national emblem, stating, “Tread carefully, Tanvir. Choose your words prudently. The National Emblem is embedded in India’s Constitution, the very foundation of the rights we all enjoy.
“Even the currency you handle features it. There is no idol worship involved. Misrepresenting facts only nurtures radical ideologies in Kashmir.”
In another incident, Darakhshan Andrabi, chairperson of the Waqf board, held a press conference demanding strict actions against individuals who vandalized the inauguration stone outside the Hazratbal shrine by smashing it to deface the national emblem.
The inauguration stone had been established two days prior, coinciding with the internal decoration and renovation of the shrine, funded by the Waqf board at a cost of crores of Rupees.
During the inauguration ceremony, Darakhshan Andrabi stated that the renovation was financed through the Waqf board’s own resources without external borrowing.
On Friday, thousands of devoted Muslims congregated at the Hazratbal shrine to engage in prayer and reflection in honor of the birthday of the Prophet of Islam (Eid-e-Milad).
This yearly event marks the largest assembly of Muslims at the Hazratbal shrine to celebrate the Prophet's birthday.
