Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, announced that the state government is actively working to secure international employment opportunities for its youth, citing demand for human resources in over 28 countries worldwide. He made these remarks at the online inauguration of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Maharojgar Melava, held across all districts of the Konkan and Nashik divisions and organised at Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT) Women's University in Mumbai.

Key Announcements by CM Fadnavis

Fadnavis underscored that earning a degree alone is insufficient in an era of rapidly evolving technologies such as AI, semiconductors, and quantum computing. He stressed that skill development, training, and employment must be integrated with formal education to produce a truly employable workforce. He described education, training, and employment as the ‘critical triad’ needed to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047.

The Chief Minister personally presented appointment letters to Sahida Parmanik and Kanti Shambhu Chavan, both of whom were hired by Crewa Capital Services Pvt. Ltd. during the event. The fair was organised under the Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan, marking 25 years of Prime Minister Modi’s public leadership.

Scale of the Maharojgar Kumbh

Across 12 districts in the Konkan and Nashik divisions, over 1,500 employers and 1,00,000 job aspirants registered for the Maharojgar Kumbh. Employers posted requisitions for more than 25,000 vacancies. Candidate-employer matching was coordinated with local educational institutions, government ITIs, district administrations, MIDC, universities, and industrial associations.

To encourage women’s participation, an exclusive job fair was organised at SNDT Women’s University, with 36 companies recruiting women across sectors. State corporations also set up informational stalls to promote self-employment schemes.

What Ministers Said

Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said initiatives are no longer limited to ITI students, with at least three mini-job fairs being organised in every taluka for youth from all educational backgrounds. The department provided seven days of free pre-employment training, benefiting 61,000 young men and women. With over 1,00,000 registrations, the department aims to connect at least 70 per cent of participants with job or self-employment opportunities.

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil said his department is coordinating with the Skill Development Department to ensure employment avenues keep pace with the number of graduating students, with a focus on soft skills, communication, personality development, and management training.

Minister Jaykumar Rawal highlighted Maharashtra’s position as a top investment destination in Asia and the country’s ‘Startup Capital.’ He added that the government is prepared to provide foreign language and skill training to youth seeking employment abroad. Under the Mobility project, ₹2,500 crore is being invested in agriculture and marketing sectors to connect farmers’ children with industry and employment.

Broader Context and Significance

This comes amid mounting pressure on state governments to translate India’s demographic dividend — with 65 per cent of the national population constituting an active youth workforce — into productive employment. Maharashtra, already one of India’s most industrialised states, is positioning itself as a hub not just for domestic job creation but also for outbound skilled labour migration. Notably, the focus on 28 countries with human resource demand signals a more structured approach to international placements than previous state-level efforts.

With the next tranche of mini-job fairs planned across talukas and sectoral skilling programmes set to expand, the government’s ability to convert registrations into verified placements will be the true measure of this initiative’s success.
