New Delhi, Sep 28 (NationPress) In a tragic turn of events, heart-wrenching scenes emerged in Tamil Nadu's Karur as families of the victims shared their profound sorrow following a stampede during the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief and actor Vijay's campaign rally, which tragically left multiple individuals dead, including a two-year-old boy.
Vimal, the father of Guru Vishnu, revealed that his son had attended the rally with his grandmother and neighbors.
"As Vijay arrived, a power failure occurred. While attempting to move closer, a stampede broke out suddenly. My child was with my mother. I was at work and couldn’t check my phone until late evening, only to find out that someone had taken my child to the hospital. I can’t articulate the grief of losing my child," he wept while speaking to IANS.
The family of another victim, Maheswari, recounted her heroic effort to save her daughters and grandchild, which ultimately led to her demise.
Her son Prasanth stated, "My mother visited the temple and paused briefly to watch Vijay's campaign. Tragically, she got caught in the crowd surge. While trying to rescue my sister and her child, she was pulled into the chaos and lost her life."
Maheswari's daughter, who survived the stampede, shared her harrowing experience.
"I fell near Vijay’s vehicle alongside my sister. My mother rushed to save us but got trapped. I struggled to breathe for over an hour. I witnessed the crowd trampling her chest and throat right before my eyes. If only help had arrived sooner, she might have survived," she sobbed.
Maheswari's husband, Sakthivel, expressed his outrage towards the event organizers.
"Was it necessary to host such a large gathering in such a confined space? My wife had to perish under so many feet. What’s the point of achieving anything if this is how it concludes?"
DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Congress MP S. Jothimani, and former Minister V. Senthil Balaji visited the grieving families, announcing a compensation package of Rs 10 lakh for each victim's family.
