Bengaluru, May 23 (NationPress) Bengaluru FC has made an exciting announcement today, revealing that midfielder Lalremtluanga Fanai has signed a three-year extension to his current contract with the club, ensuring his stay until the conclusion of the 2027-28 season. The 20-year-old talent, who has just concluded a remarkable campaign under Spanish coach Gerard Zaragoza, has developed into a well-rounded and dependable midfielder since joining the club in 2020.
"I’m truly delighted to extend my journey here at Bengaluru FC. I arrived as a teenager, and I have experienced tremendous growth during these past four seasons. The support from the coaches and teammates has been invaluable, and I genuinely believe this is the best place for my development. I can’t wait to create more memorable moments with this football club," stated Fanai after signing the new contract.
Fanai progressed through the ranks at Bengaluru FC, initially playing for the club’s U18 Academy team before moving up to the BFC Reserves. As the 2023-24 season approaches, Fanai has been included in the club’s Indian Super League squad.
The midfielder made his first-team debut against Sreenidi Deccan FC in the 2023 Super Cup and later had his Indian Super League debut against Punjab FC during the season.
Known for his ball control and passing versatility, Fanai exhibits excellent tackling and positioning skills, thanks to his astute understanding of the game, which allows him to position himself effectively on the field. Over the last two seasons, Fanai has tallied 36 appearances in the Indian Super League, an impressive statistic for a player of his age.
"At just 20, Fanai demonstrates a level of maturity and composure that surpasses expectations for his age. We are very impressed with his development over the past two seasons with the First Team. As a player who has risen through our ranks, he embodies the values of our football club, and we are thrilled to secure his services for the future," remarked the Blues’ Director of Football, Darren Caldeira.
Fanai has also been selected for Team India’s U23 Probables for upcoming friendlies against Tajikistan U23 and Kyrgyz Republic U23, following full-back Naorem Roshan Singh in extending his contract with the Blues.
