Chandigarh, March 19 (NationPress) Leaders of various farmer unions assembled in the city for an essential meeting with the Central committee to address their long-standing demand for a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The discussions are taking place at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration.

Farmer leader Bhupendra Singh stated, "The third phase of negotiations with the Central government is underway, and we are optimistic about reaching an agreement. If no resolution is found today, our movement will escalate further. Our main demand is a 100 percent legal guarantee for MSP procurement of all crops."

Prior to the meeting, the state president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Manjit Singh Rai, reiterated that the key focus remains on the MSP law.

"The agenda is our demand for a guaranteed law on MSP. Discussions have been held on this matter, and all previous meetings have centered on this issue. It will begin from there," Rai remarked, setting the tone for these significant discussions.

The meeting, which is drawing close scrutiny from farmers nationwide, occurs at a time when the MSP matter remains a vital point of contention between farmer organizations and the government.

Abhimanyu Kohar, another leading farmer representative, emphasized the importance of the meeting, stating, "This is a very significant meeting as the issue of the MSP guarantee law is directly tied to the future of every farmer in the country. We are hopeful that the government will address all of our demands today. Our leaders from both sides are approaching the meeting with a positive attitude."

Kohar further added, "However, the outcome and the government's position will only be clear after the meeting. Thus far, the previous two discussions have focused on the MSP guarantee law, and we anticipate today’s talks will continue from that point."

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal remarked, "When there is a meeting with the government, and farmers are protesting, the significance of the meeting is heightened, and the government's response and how they tackle the issue is crucial."

This meeting represents a pivotal moment in the ongoing dialogue between farmer unions and the central government.

The demand for a legal guarantee on MSP has been a critical issue for farmers as they strive for better prices for their crops and protection against market volatility.
