Bengaluru, July 2 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have filed an FIR against three individuals for allegedly inciting their female companions to make a false allegation against police officers who were on duty after they were apprehended for drunk driving, authorities reported on Wednesday.
The FIR was lodged by the Ashoknagar Police in Bengaluru. The suspects have been identified as Varun, Sharan, and Niranjan.
Footage showing the suspects disputing with the police, raising their voices, questioning the actions of the officers, and demanding that they remove their masks has circulated widely on social media. The video also depicts police pushing the suspects into a vehicle and questioning onlookers about why they did not assist during the event.
The suspects face charges under IPC Sections 132 (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty), 351(1) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 221 (intentional obstruction of a public servant in discharge of official duties), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and 3(5) (common intention in a criminal act).
The complaint was initiated by Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Ravi, associated with the Ashoknagar Traffic Police Station.
As per the FIR, the incident occurred during a drunk driving checkpoint conducted by PSI Ravi and his team at Cash Pharmacy Junction in Bengaluru on the night between June 29 and June 30.
At approximately 1 a.m., the three suspects, accompanied by two women, arrived in a vehicle with registration number KA 03 NR 4950. The driver, identified as V. Sharan, was found to be operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Both passive and active tests confirmed that another passenger, Varun, had also been drinking. A police notice was issued to him. While officers were attempting to seize the vehicle, Varun and Niranjan exited the car and began accusing the police of making inappropriate comments regarding the women in the vehicle, as stated in the FIR.
The suspects reportedly began recording the incident on their mobile devices while verbally assaulting the officers on duty. The Ashoknagar crime police were summoned to the location. Even after their arrival, the suspects allegedly used offensive language, obstructed police in their duties, and physically pushed some officers.
The FIR further indicates that the suspects incited the women with them to file a police complaint against the officers.
