As per police reports, the suspects fatally attacked 24-year-old Akash Valmiki near Unakal Lake late Monday night. After obtaining information about the suspects, the police proceeded to apprehend them. However, the suspects attempted to assault the officers and escape.
Police fired four warning shots into the air, demanding the suspects to surrender, but when they did not comply, five shots were fired at them. Following the gunfire, the suspects were arrested and transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police Inspectors Srimanta Hunasikatti, Sunil, and constables Muttu Lamani and Sharana Gouda Lamani also sustained injuries during the encounter. This incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Vidyanagar police station.
Initial investigations indicated that the suspects killed Akash Valmiki to instill fear within the community. Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar confirmed the arrest of the three suspects and announced a manhunt for five additional individuals linked to the crime.
The animosity between the suspects and Akash reportedly originated from a dispute during the Shivaratri festival last year. Nursing a grudge, the suspects brutally murdered Akash to create an atmosphere of terror in the area.
