New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) In a heartfelt farewell, five Pakistani nationals who completed various prison sentences in India for unauthorized residency were repatriated to their homeland on Friday via the Attari border in Amritsar. They expressed their appreciation for the humane treatment they received during their time in custody.

Among those liberated was 'WhatsApp lover' Ajmal Hussain, who had crossed into India to marry his lover, who is the daughter of a relative, in Haryana.

Hussain, who had been imprisoned in Tarn Taran, Punjab since 2022, acknowledged that he made a serious error by illegally entering India to reunite with his beloved.

“I am from Kasur village in Pakistan and was involved in a long-distance relationship with my relative's daughter. We communicated via WhatsApp,” he shared.

Another individual released, Jaffer Hussain, returned home after 17 years behind bars for espionage in Alwar. He expressed relief at his release.

“The jail staff treated us well,” said the Faisalabad resident.

He mentioned he was uncertain whether his wife and two children were aware of his incarceration in India.

Masroor, another freed inmate, expressed his gratitude towards the Indian authorities for their kind treatment in prison. “Even as a convict, I received a lot of affection in India. It never felt like I was in a foreign country,” said the Karachi native, who was arrested in 2008 for overstaying after his six-month visa expired.

He was a trained glass worker and was apprehended in Lucknow. Having served 16 years in Indian custody, he eagerly anticipated reuniting with his wife in Pakistan.

Nand Lal, 36, another Pakistani, thanked both the Indian and Pakistani governments for facilitating his return. “I had entered India with a valid visa to resolve a land dispute with relatives but was apprehended after visiting Jodhpur without authorization; my visa was only for Jaisalmer,” he explained. He served a seven-year sentence in Central Jail, Jaipur.

Finally, Khadim Hussain, a fisherman who spent five years in a Gujarat prison, was also among those released. He had been arrested for inadvertently drifting into Indian waters while fishing in 2022.
