Bhopal, July 10 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is set to launch a complimentary bicycle distribution initiative for deserving students during the Guru Purnima Mahotsav gathering at the Kamala Nehru Sandipani Girls School, located in Tatya Tope Nagar, Bhopal, on Thursday.

This initiative will benefit over 430,000 qualified students enrolled in government schools across Madhya Pradesh for the academic year 2025-26, as reported by the Madhya Pradesh School Education Department.

The total expenditure for this bicycle distribution scheme is estimated at Rs 195 crore. Originally launched in 2006, the program aims to provide free bicycles to students, focusing particularly on tribal girls, to promote their continued education following Class 8.

Initially, the program, managed by the Tribal Affairs Department, sought to lower dropout rates and ensure girls' access to secondary and higher secondary education. Over time, it expanded to include students from all social backgrounds, with eligibility based on the distance from home to school.

Students who travel more than two kilometers to school qualify for this benefit.

Bicycles are granted to students upon their initial admission in Classes 6 and 9. Previous statistics show that 450,000 bicycles were distributed in the 2024-25 academic year, and 470,000 in 2023-24.

During this event, Chief Minister Yadav will also inaugurate the newly built, fully equipped facility of Kamla Nehru Sandipani Vidyalaya.

The CM announced the event on his official X account, stating, "On the occasion of the Guru Purnima festival, I will commence the distribution of free bicycles to students at an event held in Bhopal today..." along with a video clip.

This modern campus, built at a cost of Rs 36 crore, features state-of-the-art laboratories, a well-stocked library, and an auditorium.

Additionally, the school boasts smart digital classrooms aimed at providing quality education. Other amenities include free coaching for competitive exams, career counseling, and sports infrastructure for both indoor and outdoor activities.

To assist students commuting from afar, a free transport service has been arranged for children living within a 10-kilometer radius of the school.
