Bhopal, July 10 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav revealed an extensive educational support initiative during the Guru Purnima Mahotsav in Bhopal, focusing on enhancing access, equity, and digital empowerment for students throughout Madhya Pradesh.
The centerpiece of the Rs 195 crore project was the distribution of complimentary bicycles to over 4.30 lakh students who travel more than two kilometers to attend school.
This initiative was symbolized by the Chief Minister personally distributing 50 bicycles to students at Kamla Nehru Sandipani Girls School in Bhopal, marking the state-wide launch of the MP Free Cycle Yojana.
Exceptional Class 12 students from government schools will now be awarded electric scooties, building upon a program that benefited nearly 8,000 students the previous year.
"Next month, the top-performing students will also receive electric scooties. Those achieving over 75 percent marks were recently given laptops," announced the Chief Minister.
CM Yadav also introduced a series of new commitments aimed at enhancing academic opportunities. In a new pledge for educational inclusivity, he stated, "Meritorious students will receive financial support for private medical colleges. Students passing the NEET exam but unable to secure admission into esteemed government colleges will have their tuition fees fully covered by the government, even if it costs Rs 70 or Rs 80 lakh, or any amount, if they enroll in private medical colleges. No student from an economically disadvantaged background should be deprived of medical education."
He added that state medical colleges will soon increase their combined seat capacity to 10,000, up from the current nearly 5,000.
The state is also committing to transform government-run schools, now referred to as Sandipani Vidyalayas, into modern learning hubs. These schools will be equipped with smart classrooms, science and computer labs, libraries, and extensive sports facilities, including swimming pools.
Over 265 schools are under construction, with 116 ready for occupancy this year. Additional support includes ready-made school uniforms for all students starting next year and free coaching for competitive exams along with career guidance.
Earlier this month, nearly one lakh students who scored above 75 percent in Class 12 received Rs 25,000 each to purchase laptops.
Starting next year, laptops will be distributed directly, reinforcing the government's commitment to digital literacy.
The number of such students stood at 94,000.
"With transportation, tuition, infrastructure, and digital tools now part of a broader educational framework, the state is laying the groundwork for a more inclusive and opportunity-rich future for its youth," he said.
