Manoj Tiwari Calls Fuel Duty Cuts a 'Ram Navami Gift'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 27 (NationPress) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari praised the government's decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel, referring to it as a "Ram Navami gift for the nation".
Tiwari remarked, "This is the most significant news of the day. The nation has been bestowed with a gift on Ram Navami."
He pointed out that there were concerns about a potential increase in fuel prices by Rs 10 to Rs 12 per litre due to ongoing conflicts in the Gulf. However, the Indian government chose to shoulder the entire burden, he told reporters.
He expressed optimism that fuel costs would remain stable across the country."There will be no need for any increase in diesel and petrol prices anywhere in India. This decision was made today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government," he said.
Tiwari further added, "If anyone attempts to raise diesel or petrol prices anywhere in the country, remind them that we have reduced the excise duty by Rs 10 per litre each. This is the commitment of the Modi government to its citizens."
Earlier in the day, the central government announced a reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre each, reducing prices to Rs 3 per litre for petrol and zero for diesel.
This reduction comes in light of fears regarding a price increase due to the global energy crisis, exacerbated by the US-Israel conflict with Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Nevertheless, the government clarified that the retail prices of petrol and diesel would not see any changes, and the excise reduction would not translate into lower prices at the pump.
Instead, it will directly lessen the under-recoveries that public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs)—Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation—are absorbing while supplying fuel to Indian consumers at prices significantly below their cost of supply, according to the Petroleum Ministry.
