Hyderabad, July 18 (NationPress) The latest advertisements from the Congress government in Telangana, focusing on the caste census and enhanced reservations for Backward Classes, have sparked discussions in various circles. These ads, featured in some Hindi newspapers published in Bihar, prominently display only Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
The glaring omission of former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has prompted BJP national spokesperson Ajay Alok to question if this signifies a transformative phase for the Congress party.
“This marks the first instance where an advertisement from a Congress government concerning the 'caste census' does not feature the images of the 'Rajmata and Yuvaraj'. Could this be a sign of a new era for Congress? A 'Gandhi-free Congress' could invigorate party workers,” he remarked on the social media platform X.
Alok's comments elicited a strong backlash from Congress supporters, with one user sharing an advertisement from the Manipur government, highlighting that 'the superhero isn’t shown up'.
Others criticized the language used in Alok's post, with one social media user accusing him of spreading negativity.
In response to the backlash, Ajay Alok stated, “I got a bit too excited. A deluge of criticism is coming my way.”
These government advertisements were released on Friday in Hindi newspapers in Bihar, coinciding with the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for October-November.
Through these ads, the Telangana Congress government aimed to showcase the initiatives undertaken for social justice within the state.
The state government, which conducted a caste census earlier this year, has also resolved to boost the reservation for Backward Classes from 23% to 42%.
In March, the Telangana Assembly passed two Bills to elevate the BC quota in education, employment, and local governance. These Bills have been forwarded to the Centre for Presidential assent.
As the Centre has yet to approve, the Cabinet recently opted to issue an ordinance to raise the BC reservation to 42% for the forthcoming local body elections.
