Bengaluru, July 20 (NationPress) Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that small traders and street vendors in Karnataka are encountering challenges due to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) implemented by the BJP administration at the national level.
At a function aimed at distributing governmental benefits, he remarked, “Notices are being sent to anyone conducting business exceeding Rs 40 lakh, including tender coconut vendors, vegetable sellers, and others. This reflects the Union government’s achievements. Traders need not fret; we will undertake necessary measures to safeguard their interests.”
“For the past two years, we have made numerous requests to the Centre for funding, yet none of the BJP Members of Parliament are advocating for our state. They show little concern for the underprivileged in Karnataka. The state receives only Rs 13 for every Rs 100 it contributes to the Centre through taxes,” he added.
“Our commitment is to channel Yettinahole waters to the Bengaluru North district by 2027. The BJP has neglected to supply water to this region; it is the Congress that is securing water for the area. We are also preparing a Detailed Project Report to extend the metro to Hoskote, ensuring its completion during our tenure,” he further stated.
“Additionally, we have initiated steps to regularize B khatas in Bengaluru. Our government is distributing over one crore of patta khatas to scheduled tribes. Hoskote is a significant milk producer, and our 'ksheera dhaare' program is greatly benefiting dairy farmers,” he mentioned.
Shivakumar also noted that repair operations at the state’s dams would be prioritized once the technical committee on dam safety submits its findings.
He stated, “We established a technical committee on dam safety following the damage to one of the gates at the Tunga Bhadra reservoir. Necessary actions will be taken upon receiving the report.”
In response to media inquiries about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah setting aside two days to address grievances from MLAs, Shivakumar commented, “MLAs meet with me daily. I allocate time for them every single day.”
When questioned about the statement from the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, R. Ashoka, who claimed that dividing Bengaluru into five parts would lead to its destruction, he replied, “We have already discussed this in the Assembly. The decision was made after consulting everyone. Yet, they continue to make political statements merely for effect.”
Regarding reports that the Chief Minister insulted him during an event in Mysuru, he said, “The Chief Minister clarified this on Saturday and reiterated it on Sunday morning. I won’t comment further; I am focused on my duties.”
