Bengaluru, Jan 30 (NationPress) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged on Thursday that everyone must make genuine efforts to construct Gandhi's India.
Speaking to reporters after honoring Bapu's statue at Vidhana Soudha on his death anniversary, he remarked: "Mahatma Gandhi envisioned India as a nation of villages, asserting that true national advancement could be achieved through rural development."
Siddaramaiah emphasized that Mahatma Gandhi's principles are still pertinent today, adding that his life serves as a profound message, and his challenging journey continues to motivate many.
Mahatma Gandhi was tragically assassinated on January 30, 1948.
In 1924, Mahatma Gandhi chaired the Congress session in Belagavi. To commemorate the centenary of that session, the Congress Working Committee convened in Belagavi, where on January 21, a statue of Gandhi was inaugurated at Suvarna Soudha, followed by a public assembly with the slogan "Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan."
In other news, Siddaramaiah expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of lives during the Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, confirming that four individuals from Belagavi lost their lives in a stampede.
He assured that an air ambulance has been arranged to assist the injured, and senior officials from Belagavi will manage their return.
Moreover, discussions will take place with district ministers regarding the necessary relief actions, he informed.
Earlier in the day, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge paid floral tributes to the great leader at the Gandhi Memorial, Raj Ghat.
"The might of truth, non-violence, and courage can uproot even the largest empires – the entire world draws inspiration from his principles. Countless respects to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma, our Bapu on his Martyrdom Day," his post in Hindi stated.
Describing Mahatma Gandhi as the nation’s guiding star, Congress President Kharge remarked that "his concepts of 'Satya', 'Ahimsa', 'Sarvodaya', and 'Sarva Dharma' 'Sambhava' continue to illuminate our journey."
