Sonia Gandhi Warns of Threats to Mahatma Gandhi's Legacy from Delhi Authorities

Bengaluru, Dec 26 (NationPress) Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi conveyed her thoughts during the Extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held to commemorate the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi assuming the presidency of the esteemed party in Belagavi, Karnataka. She emphasized that the legacy of the Father of the Nation is "under threat from those in power in Delhi".
In her two-page correspondence addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and the members of the Extended CWC, Sonia Gandhi expressed her 'regret' for her absence during this significant event.
The letter states: "The 39th session of the Indian National Congress took place exactly a century ago at this very venue. Therefore, it is indeed fitting that you gather at Mahatma Gandhi Nagar. Mahatma Gandhi's election as Congress President here marked a pivotal moment for our party and the Independence movement. It represented a transformative milestone in the history of our nation.
"Today, we reaffirm our commitment to safeguard, uphold, and celebrate the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. He has been, and will remain, the fundamental source of our inspiration. It was he who shaped and directed our remarkable leaders of that era. His legacy faces challenges from those in power in New Delhi and the ideologies that support them.
The letter further elaborated: "These organizations have never fought for our freedom. They opposed Mahatma Gandhi vehemently. They fostered a hostile environment that culminated in his assassination. They honor his assassins.
"Gandhian institutions throughout the country are currently under siege. Thus, it is appropriate that this meeting is named Nava Satyagraha Baithak. It is now our sacred responsibility to renew our commitment to confront these forces with all our strength and unwavering resolve.
The former Congress chief also remarked: "Friends, I am confident that the topic of fortifying our organization to tackle the challenges it faces will also be discussed today. Our remarkable organization, with its illustrious history, has consistently exhibited resilience.
"Let us individually and collectively emerge from this meeting with a firm determination to address the numerous challenges our party encounters with a renewed sense of urgency and purpose. I wish all of you the very best for 2025 and beyond,” the letter concludes.
