Karnataka Congress to Mark 100 Years in Belagavi

Bengaluru, Dec 14 (NationPress) The Karnataka Congress is set to commemorate its centenary in Belagavi on December 27. This significant event will be graced by the presence of party President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, MP Priyanka Gandhi, and former party president Sonia Gandhi.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and state chief, D.K. Shivakumar, urged Congress members to attend the centenary celebration of the Belagavi convention following the announcement.
“In 1924, Mahatma Gandhi took on the role of Congress President and led the charge for independence. This is an opportunity for Congress members to celebrate this remarkable milestone, and everyone should seize it. We have formed a committee of 60 individuals, including Minister for Law H. K. Patil, former Union Minister Veerappa Moily, senior leader B.L. Shankar, among others, to finalize the celebration details,” Shivakumar stated.
“On December 26, we will conduct a meeting of the Congress Working Committee at the same location where Gandhiji was sworn in as AICC President in Belagavi.
Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, all CWC members, Presidents of all PCCs, CLP leaders, 150 MPs, and AICC General Secretaries are expected to attend the convention, according to Shivakumar.
“A statue of Mahatma Gandhi will be unveiled to commemorate this occasion. The Chief Minister of Karnataka will also host a dinner for the dignitaries in the evening. This historic convention is scheduled for 11 am on December 27. Responsibilities were assigned in the last Cabinet meeting,” he elaborated.
He further mentioned that the party had organized an ‘Independence Walk’ to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence, which saw participation from over three lakh people.
“We have assigned protocol responsibilities to each MLA, along with former MLAs and ministers. No transport or accommodation has been arranged in Belagavi. Individuals who have participated in the panchayat elections, appointees to boards and corporations, committee members, and corporation members must arrive in their own vehicles,” he urged.
He noted that the party will illuminate Belagavi city with an investment of Rs 8 crore, similar to the decorations in Mysuru during Dasara.
“We are conducting awareness programs for party workers in the Kitturu Karnataka region concerning the convention. Leaders in charge must ensure that at least 5,000 individuals from each assembly constituency in this area attend to make this event a grand success,” he concluded.
