Deputy CM Shivakumar Highlights Congress Strength Amid BJP's Protest Plans for Centenary Celebrations

Belagavi (Karnataka), Dec 24 (NationPress) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated on Tuesday that the power of the Congress party is widely acknowledged, and even the BJP is cognizant of this.

Shivakumar made these remarks while addressing media inquiries at the Circuit House regarding the BJP’s 'Belagavi Chalo' movement coinciding with the centenary celebrations of the 1924 Congress session.

"Why raise this issue now? Let anyone attempt to cause disruptions. The strength of the Congress Party is something both they (BJP) and we recognize. First, let’s concentrate on organizing historic events and securing a place in the annals of history," he commented.

"Belagavi is hosting a momentous occasion. That’s why the city has been adorned with lights, and I encourage the public to come and experience this splendor," he continued.

He also shared insights about the significant 1924 Belagavi session led by Mahatma Gandhi. "This event should not be perceived through a partisan lens. Whenever the Congress organizes an event, it goes beyond the party. It is meant to reflect the nation’s history and to consider the future direction of our country. I urge the public to engage in this program," he stated.

"In a democratic framework, leaders who view themselves as representatives should attend this event. We aren’t expecting thousands of attendees from across the state. Even 100 participants are adequate. I’ve been visiting the venues to check preparations and ensure that by Tuesday (December 24), all arrangements will be finalized," he added.

When queried about the event details, he responded, "The official activities will commence on December 26. On the morning of December 26, inaugural programs will be held at various locations. The 1924 Belagavi session, chaired by Mahatma Gandhi, occurred at 3 p.m. on December 26, 1924. On that same date and time, a party working committee meeting will be conducted."

On the morning of December 27, at 10:30 a.m., the government will unveil a statue of Gandhi at the Suvarna Soudha premises. A photo session and luncheon will also be hosted at the Suvarna Soudha, followed by a public meeting at noon on December 27," he elaborated.

On December 26, the Gandhi family is set to arrive in Belagavi. Arrangements for their stay have been made at the Circuit House and a private hotel. The final decision on accommodations will be made by the Gandhi family’s security personnel, he mentioned. A team of Congress leaders from both state and national levels, including state in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, are in Belagavi to supervise preparations.
