Patna, Oct 9 (NationPress) In a significant operation, the Railway Police at Gaya intercepted two kilograms of smuggled gold valued at around Rs 2 crore from a traveler on the Howrah-Kalka Mail this Thursday.
This incident has been marked as one of the largest gold recoveries in the history of Gaya Railway Station.
According to Rajesh Kumar Singh, the SHO of GRP Police Station at Gaya Junction, the gold was discovered during a standard check of the 12311 Up Howrah-Kalka Mail, which was halted at Gaya Junction.
“While inspecting one of the coaches, our team observed a passenger acting suspiciously. Upon examining his bag, we uncovered four gold biscuits weighing about two kilograms,” Singh stated.
Upon preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted to smuggling the gold from Kolkata to Kanpur.
He was promptly detained, and further inquiries are ongoing to identify the origin and destination of the shipment.
Authorities believe that the confiscated gold may be linked to a broader smuggling operation spanning Eastern and Northern India.
The Income Tax Department and GST Intelligence Unit have been notified for a collaborative investigation.
The Railway Superintendent of Police and other senior officials have also been informed about the case.
In light of the model code of conduct established in Bihar following the announcement of the Assembly elections, officials have intensified inspections at Gaya Junction to prevent illegal transport of cash, liquor, and valuables.

Earlier, on October 7, an Excise Department team in Gopalganj seized 131 cartons of foreign liquor from a pickup truck near Jigna Dhala under the Mirganj police station.
One individual involved in the liquor smuggling was apprehended during this operation.
As per officials, the liquor, valued at about Rs 15 lakh, was being transported from Punjab to Samastipur and was cleverly concealed under a bed to evade detection.
