New Delhi, April 2 (NationPress) Following the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeat by six wickets to the Delhi Capitals (DC) in their first match of IPL 2026, franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka expressed his unwavering support for the team and captain Rishabh Pant. He emphasized that the team’s narrative this season is "far from complete."

Despite a lackluster batting performance, LSG’s bowlers managed to challenge DC with considerable movement. With a target of 142, which was always going to be tough for the home side to defend, DC's Sameer Rizvi played a pivotal role, scoring an unbeaten 70, leading them to victory and marking a successful start to their IPL 2026 campaign.

"This is a long season, and episodes like this are integral to crafting something significant. I have immense faith in our captain and the team to bounce back strongly. To our fans, we appreciate your unwavering support at Ekana, and we will return stronger. The narrative of @LucknowIPL this season is far from complete," Goenka stated on X post-match.

LSG, batting first, struggled to gain momentum early on. In a much-discussed decision, captain Rishabh Pant opened the innings but faced unfortunate luck, getting run out for 7 (9) on a straight drive. Significant contributions from Mitchell Marsh (35 off 28) and Abdul Samad (36 off 25) helped keep the scoreboard ticking, even amidst challenging conditions, with both players finding crucial boundaries to stabilize the innings. However, losing wickets consistently meant they could only manage 141 runs in 18.4 overs.

In their bowling effort, LSG needed early wickets, and Mohd. Shami delivered an electrifying start on his franchise debut, thrilling the Lucknow crowd by dismissing Delhi's new opener KL Rahul for a golden duck on his very first ball of the innings.

The momentum continued as young pacer Prince Yadav had an impressive outing, taking down Pathum Nissanka and Axar Patel in the fifth over, leaving the opposition struggling at 26/4.

While the bowlers showed great discipline and energy, the Delhi Capitals gradually took control in the latter half of the chase, with Sameer Rizvi steering them home with an unbeaten 70, concluding the match in 17.1 overs.

Point of View

Yet Sanjiv Goenka's support for the team and Rishabh Pant reflects a commitment to resilience. The team must regroup and learn from this setback to maintain competitive momentum.
