Good Governance Will Fortify Maharashtra's Journey Towards a $1 Trillion Economy: Fadnavis

Mumbai, Dec 26 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Thursday that the journey towards achieving a $1 trillion economy will be reinforced through good governance, while emphasizing that 'Ease of Living' is a key element for the state's development.

While unveiling the Maharashtra District Good Governance Index, 2024 report, Fadnavis remarked: "The advancement of a state relies on its 'Ease of Living'. Consequently, the government is consistently striving to enhance the 'Ease of Living' for its citizens. The effectiveness of good governance is evident in the timely delivery of government services to the populace. Our goal is to elevate the state's economy to $1 trillion. Good governance plays a crucial role in this objective."

Fadnavis indicated that the collaboration with the Central government has allowed the District Good Governance Index to reflect the landscape of governance across various sectors.

"This index is quite comprehensive. Previously, the government focused on a people-centric administration and created a platform named 'Aaple Sarkar' for citizens to address their grievances.

"The method behind the District Good Governance Index goes beyond mere rankings; it also highlights areas for enhancement. The disparity in scores between the top and bottom-performing districts in the state is minimal, indicating that all regions are making progress," he added.

Fadnavis acknowledged that the District Good Governance Index is based on 161 parameters across 10 development sectors and commended the district administrations for their impressive performance.

Additionally, Fadnavis reviewed the planning for the upcoming 100 days and urged all departments to deliver tangible results within this timeframe.

"Departments are drafting plans for the next 100 days aimed at comprehensive state progress. These plans should focus on people-centric schemes, initiatives that leverage technology for citizen benefits, and achievements that will sustain and elevate the state's growth," he stated.

Fadnavis assessed the 100-day plan for the Higher and Technical Education, Forest, and Agriculture Departments.

He recommended that the Forest Department implement strategies using artificial intelligence and information technology to mitigate human-wildlife conflict, suggesting the establishment of a swift rescue team for immediate assistance in such situations.

"Members of this team should receive top-notch training. The Forest Department needs to incorporate such strategies into the upcoming 100-day plan. This should be a long-term initiative to foster a culture of tree planting. This plan must be executed effectively," Fadnavis remarked.

Furthermore, Fadnavis pointed out the necessity of creating sanctuaries in other states for the increasing leopard population, advocating for enhanced shelter capacities. He urged the department to devise a policy for establishing a carbon credit company.

"The Miyawaki tree planting technique should be adopted in urban areas to boost afforestation," Fadnavis concluded.

He emphasized that the Agriculture Department should center its initiatives around the farmers. The Higher and Technical Education Department should work towards attracting foreign universities to the region and developing educational complexes.

The respective department secretaries presented their plans to the Chief Minister during the meeting, which was attended by officials from the relevant departments.
