Washington, Jan 15 (NationPress) Highlighting the recent appointment of the new American ambassador in New Delhi and a renewed focus on trade and strategic collaborations, a prominent Indian American leader expressed his positive outlook on the future of India–US relations on Wednesday.
Sergio Gor's assumption of the role as Ambassador of the United States to India is viewed as a highly significant development, according to Jasdip Singh Jessee of Sikhs for Trump.
He pointed out that the prolonged absence of an ambassador had led to uncertainty during a critical period when the relationship required ongoing attention.
“A long vacuum existed at a time when our connections were deteriorating,” he stated, adding that the new ambassador's presence “will make a substantial difference.”
Jessee emphasized Gor's closeness to President Donald Trump, indicating India's key position in the U.S. foreign policy framework.
“One important aspect about Sergio Gor is his close relationship with President Trump,” he remarked. “President Trump dispatching his trusted aide to India underscores India's significance in his view.”
He noted that Gor's initial public comments in India have been encouraging and well-received.
“So far, the ambassador's statements have been very positive, uplifting, and optimistic,” Jessee said, commending Indian media for their balanced coverage of the ambassador's outreach.
Jessee highlighted the increasing engagement beyond mere diplomacy, particularly in economic and strategic alignment.
“Numerous new avenues for trade are now being explored,” he mentioned. “Even discussions around minerals are now on the agenda.”
He stated that dialogues regarding a trade agreement commenced shortly after Gor's appointment, with recent high-level exchanges indicating a positive trajectory.
“We have encouraging news that our External Affairs Minister (S. Jaishankar) communicated with Secretary of State Marco Rubio,” Jessee said, referencing discussions between Indian and U.S. officials.
The Indian American diaspora remains committed to enhancing relations between the two democracies. “The Indian diaspora here consistently hopes for a robust relationship between India and the U.S.,” he added. “We aspire to contribute to elevating this relationship to new heights.”
