Washington, Dec 22, (NationPress) The selection of Sergio Gor as the forthcoming US Ambassador to India has the potential to greatly enhance bilateral relations, thanks to his remarkable access to President Donald Trump, stated Atul Keshap, the President of the US-India Business Council (USIBC).

Keshap characterized the ambassador as “the quarterback of the entire US government team” in India, tasked with synchronizing both operations within the country and interagency activities in Washington. “It’s a very critical role. It’s a very influential role,” he emphasized.

He noted that Gor’s direct line to the US president distinguishes him from previous ambassadors. “Ambassador Gor is arguably the ambassador to India who far and away has the most direct and priority access to the president of the United States in the entire history of the job,” Keshap conveyed to IANS.

“If you have an ambassador who can pick up the phone and connect with the president right away, you have a very, very powerful ambassador in Delhi,” he added.

This access, Keshap remarked, could facilitate advancements in strategic, economic, and technological sectors, including supply chains and Quad cooperation. “A powerful ambassador like that is a very rare and precious thing,” he stated.

While underscoring that an ambassador’s main duty is to promote US interests, Keshap mentioned the role also encompasses fostering a mutually advantageous relationship with the host nation. “The two largest democracies on Earth ought to be the best possible friends on Earth,” he asserted.

He pointed out that effective diplomacy requires attentive listening to Indian perspectives and clearly communicating them in Washington.

“If you have an ambassador as potent as Ambassador Gor in Delhi, actively listening to the Indian side… I think you have a very, very strong possibility for good ways forward,” he expressed.

Reflecting on the broader relationship, Keshap indicated that recent years have involved straightforward discussions. “When countries are candid with each other, that is the foundational basis of true friendship,” he stated.

The US-India relationship has broadened across defense, technology, energy, space, and supply chain cooperation.

India’s increasing strategic and economic significance has rendered the US ambassadorship in New Delhi one of Washington’s most crucial diplomatic assignments.
