New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) The government is committed to ensuring that honest taxpayers can conduct their business with dignity. Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, emphasized that illegal trade must be rendered impossible, dangerous, and unproductive by restricting the use of India’s land, waterways, and airways.
During the 68th Founding Day celebration of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Chaudhary praised DRI’s unwavering dedication to securing India's economic frontiers and trade infrastructure since its inception in 1957.
He acknowledged DRI's efforts in facing global challenges, technological advancements, and the rise of organized international crime networks, commending its steadfastness, dedication, and effectiveness.
Vivek Chaturvedi, Chairman of CBIC, lauded DRI for its consistent professionalism and its vital role in protecting legitimate trade.
He urged officers to continue utilizing technology, risk management strategies, and international collaborations to enhance India’s border security.
At the event, Abhai Kumar Srivastav, Director General of DRI, reiterated DRI’s pledge to uphold the highest standards of ethics and operational excellence. He underlined DRI’s persistent efforts to dismantle smuggling syndicates and curb the flow of illicit funds that could be exploited by anti-national elements and non-state actors, which threatens public order and national security.
DRI also unveiled its annual flagship publication, the ‘Smuggling in India Report 2024–25’, detailing trends in illicit trade, major enforcement accomplishments, emerging challenges, and policy suggestions.
As it approaches its 69th year of service to the nation, DRI reaffirms its mission to protect India’s borders, defend economic interests, and maintain the highest integrity standards.
The ceremony was attended by 30 international delegates from 15 countries, participating in the 10th Regional Customs Enforcement Meeting (RCEM), showcasing the strengthening collaboration between India and global law enforcement agencies to combat transnational smuggling.
