Gandhinagar, Aug 19 (NationPress) In celebration of the International Year of Cooperatives-2025, Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will lead a workshop for cooperative leaders in Gandhinagar on August 20.
This event, organized by the state’s Cooperation, Animal Husbandry, Cow-Breeding, and Fisheries Department, aims to bolster inclusive, sustainable, and resilient cooperative institutions, reflecting this year’s global theme, “Co-operatives Build the Better World.”
The workshop is designed to bring to life Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation), under the leadership of Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
The gathering will occur at Gujarat National Law University at 11 am. The chief guest will be Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, joined by Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel, Forest and Environment Minister Mulu Bera, Minister of State for Cooperation Jagdish Vishwakarma, and Minister of State for Forest and Environment Mukesh Patel.
Notable cooperative figures such as Ajay Patel, Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Bank, Dilip Sanghani, Chairman of IFFCO, and Ashok Chaudhary, Chairman of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, will also participate.
Directors from district cooperative banks, district milk unions, GUJCOMASOL, and Kheti Bank, along with other cooperative leaders from across the state, are anticipated to be present at the full-day workshop.
Cooperatives are the foundation of Gujarat’s rural economy, contributing billions in annual revenue and establishing the state’s identity as the “cooperative capital of India.”
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul) alone achieves a turnover exceeding Rs 55,000 crore, making it the world’s largest dairy cooperative. Additionally, organizations like IFFCO, GUJCOMASOL, and Gujarat State Cooperative Bank significantly contribute through fertilizers, credit, and marketing networks.
With over 84,000 cooperative societies and more than 1.5 crore members, the sector propels prosperity in agriculture, dairying, fisheries, and rural credit, embodying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s motto of “Sahkar se Samriddhi.”
Beyond financial contributions, cooperatives have social and political significance, empowering small farmers, fostering grassroots leadership, and exemplifying a model of inclusive economic growth.
