Gandhinagar, February 9 (NationPress) A group from Sri Lanka's ruling party, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), headed by General Secretary Tilvin Silva, met with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday. “By working together, Sri Lanka can leverage Gujarat's policy frameworks in sectors it wishes to collaborate in,” he noted.
The dialogue also encompassed tourism collaboration, focusing on initiatives to boost visitor numbers from Gujarat to Sri Lanka.
Tilvin Silva mentioned that this was his inaugural visit to Gujarat and conveyed his admiration for the state's advancements.
He referred to India as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Modi, expressing his emotional connection to the visit and his impression of Gujarat’s developmental progress.
The JVP General Secretary expressed gratitude to both Central and State governments for providing sacred relics of Lord Buddha for an exhibition held in Colombo.
He also recognized India’s assistance to Sri Lanka during challenging times, stating, “India has consistently supported Sri Lanka, particularly in infrastructure development when we needed help,” Silva remarked.
Silva expressed a desire to strengthen industrial ties between Gujarat and Sri Lanka, citing his visit to Amul as a model of a successful cooperative initiative.
Additionally, he stated that Sri Lanka is eager to learn from Gujarat's expertise through “knowledge sharing and know-how” across various sectors, including cooperatives.
Patel extended an invitation for Sri Lanka to join as a partner country in the Vibrant Summit-2027, asserting that the event would serve as a platform to explore investment and collaborative opportunities.
He also provided insights into the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conferences (VGRC) initiative, aimed at showcasing Gujarat’s industrial capabilities worldwide, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision.
