"He strongly urges both Governments to exercise utmost restraint and avert any escalation," Haq remarked on Monday.
"The Secretary-General is significantly concerned about the situation between India and Pakistan," he added in a written statement responding to a journalist's inquiry.
On Monday, for the fourth consecutive day, the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked fire with small arms across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a swift and effective response from Indian troops, stated the spokesperson for the Indian defense ministry.
Haq noted that the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) "does not have a presence in the area where the attack occurred."
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif warned a TV network of an "immediate threat" of confrontation.
"The Secretary-General reiterates his steadfast belief that even the most complex issues can be settled peacefully through meaningful and constructive dialogue," Haq stated.
"He is prepared to support any initiatives acceptable to both parties that facilitate the resumption of dialogue," he added.
Haq expressed, "The Secretary-General conveys his solidarity with the families of the victims of the April 22 terrorist attack and emphasizes the need for accountability and justice."
Terrorists had opened fire on a group of tourists in the Baisaran Valley, resulting in 26 fatalities and multiple injuries, including one Nepali national.
