Can a Hijab-Wearing Woman Become India's PM?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai/New Delhi, Jan 10 (NationPress) Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam responded sharply to AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi regarding his comments that a hijab-wearing woman cannot ascend to the position of Prime Minister in India but could in Pakistan or Bangladesh.
During an event, Owaisi expressed his aspiration for a hijab-wearing woman to be the Prime Minister of India one day.
In an interview with IANS in Mumbai, Nirupam asserted that while a hijab-wearing woman could indeed serve as Prime Minister, it wouldn't be in India. He remarked, “She may serve as the Prime Minister in Pakistan, Bangladesh, or any Gulf nation. If Owaisi is so passionate about this vision, he should consider relocating to Pakistan to pursue this aspiration,” he stated.
Nirupam also highlighted the upcoming Somnath Swabhiman Parv, a grand occasion featuring the participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Somnath stands as a testament to India's dignity and embodies its culture and traditions. It's essential to recall that Somnath was besieged numerous times nearly a millennium ago by the Afghan monarch Mahmud of Ghazni,” he noted.
Addressing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Nirupam criticized her interference during the ED raid at the I-PAC office, labeling it a breach of India's constitutional framework. “Her actions constitute an illegal act and a crime. The manner in which Banerjee obstructs central agencies from conducting their duties is a grave issue. The public is observant and poised for the right moment,” he mentioned.
In response to another inquiry, Nirupam remarked that Ajit Pawar had claimed that familial disputes had been resolved.
“With the parties led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar contesting the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporation elections together, it suggests that family differences are nearing an end. This development is favorable. However, what political form this will assume in the future remains uncertain, as that decision lies with Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar.
