During a function focused on regional languages, CM Sarma praised Union Home Minister Amit Shah's commitment to further enhancing the stature of Hindi.
He stated, "Union Home Minister Amit Shah has urged that by 2047, we must fortify Hindi and regional languages to a degree that reliance on foreign languages is eliminated. We must strive towards this goal."
On the same day, CM Sarma participated in the Joint Regional Official Language Conference for the Eastern and Northeastern regions, organized by the Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in Sonapur.
Addressing the gathering, the CM expressed gratitude towards the department for selecting Guwahati as the conference location and extended a warm welcome to all participants to Assam.
He congratulated various offices and organizations honored for their remarkable use of Hindi and stressed the importance of promoting Hindi while respecting regional languages.
Looking back at historical contexts, the Chief Minister pointed out that colonial influence had fostered a preference for English in Northeast India, which delayed the adoption of Hindi. He noted that over time, people have come to view Hindi as a significant pathway to employment.
The Chief Minister remarked that initially, limited exposure to Hindi restricted job opportunities for the youth in North India.
Nevertheless, he highlighted that with increasing acceptance, the popularity of Hindi has been on the rise.
CM Sarma also mentioned that the architects of the Indian Constitution emphasized the necessity for Hindi to be straightforward and practical.
He added that official Hindi should be devoid of technical complexities to remain accessible for all, thus evolving into a language of the people.
Additionally, he stressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pledge to enhance the user-friendliness of Hindi by incorporating elements from regional languages to foster broader acceptance and growth.
During the event, CM Sarma, alongside the Minister of State for Home Affairs, presented the esteemed Rajbhasha Award to distinguished government offices and organizations from the Eastern and Northeastern regions.
The gathering was graced by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, Assam Pradesh BJP President and MP, Dilip Saikia, and other esteemed guests.
