Dhaka, Dec 30 (NationPress) In yet another alarming incident of violence against minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh, a Hindu man was tragically shot dead by a colleague in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh district, according to local media reports on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Ansar member Bajendra Biswas. He was fatally shot by fellow Ansar member Noman Mia, who has been apprehended by authorities.

The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force, commonly referred to as the Ansar Bahini, is a paramilitary unit operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, charged with maintaining internal security and law enforcement in the nation.

This tragic event took place on Monday evening at the Sultana Sweaters Limited factory located in the Mehrabari area of the upazila. Sources from Bangladeshi media outlet RTV online reported that there were 20 Ansar members employed at the Sultana Sweaters Limited factory.

According to reports, Ansar members Noman and Bajendra were seated together when the shooting occurred. Bajendra sustained a serious injury to his left thigh after Noman discharged his shotgun. Subsequently, his colleagues rushed him to the Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician pronounced him dead.

Recalling the harrowing event, Ansar member APC Azahar Ali, who witnessed the shooting and was responsible for Labib Group, stated, "Ansar members Noman Mia and Bajendra Das were together in my room at the time of the incident. Out of nowhere, he aimed a shotgun at Bajendra Das' thigh and inquired, 'Shall I shoot?' before pulling the trigger. Noman then fled the scene.” He also noted that there hadn't been any visible dispute between the two prior to the shooting.

Confirming the incident, Mymensingh district's Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance and Administration) Abdullah Al Mamun announced that a swift operation was conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, resulting in Noman's arrest. He indicated that a comprehensive investigation has commenced to uncover the motive behind the attack. The victim's remains have been transferred to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, while legal proceedings are underway.

This incident marks the third such occurrence within a week and the second in Mymensingh.

On December 24, reports emerged regarding the death of another Hindu youth, identified as 29-year-old Amrit Mondal, who was allegedly lynched by a mob in the Hossaindanga area of Kalimohar Union in Bangladesh.

Earlier, on December 18, a 25-year-old Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, was brutally murdered in a mob attack fueled by false blasphemy accusations from a Muslim coworker at his factory in Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh. The mob killed Das and subsequently hung his body from a tree before setting it ablaze.

Bangladesh has seen a surge in violence against minorities, including Hindus, under the Yunus-led interim government, inciting outrage among citizens and various global human rights organizations.

Recently, India expressed significant concern regarding the persistent hostility faced by minorities in Bangladesh—including Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists—and has affirmed its vigilant observation of the evolving situation in its neighboring country.
