Hyderabad Metro Expansion: Two New Corridors Proposed in Second Phase

Hyderabad, Jan 1 (NationPress) As a New Year surprise for the residents of Hyderabad, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has chosen to broaden the reach of Hyderabad Metro Rail connectivity to Medchal and Shameerpet in the northern sector of the city.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister provided the go-ahead for two new Metro corridors - Paradise-Medchal (23 km) and JBS-Shameerpet (22 km).
He instructed the Managing Director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML), N.V.S. Reddy, to draft a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these corridors and submit it to the Centre for approval under Phase-II ‘B’ of the Hyderabad Metro.
This decision was made during a meeting with Municipal Administration and Urban Development Secretary Dana Kishor and HAML MD N.V.S. Reddy.
The corridor from Paradise will extend for 23 km, connecting to Medchal through Tadbun, Bowenpally, Suchitra Circle, Kompally, Gundlapochampally, Kandlakoya, and the ORR Exit.
In a similar manner, the JBS-Shameerpet corridor will span 22 km, linking areas including Vikrampuri, Karkhana, Trimulgherry, Lothakunta, Alwal, Bollaram, Hakimpet, Thomukunta, and the ORR Exit.
The Chief Minister, recalling his experience as the former MP from Malkajgiri, acknowledged the issues of traffic congestion and emphasized the importance of a well-planned route. He urged HAML MD to consult the current MP, Eatala Rajender, for his insights.
N.V.S. Reddy mentioned that the Chief Minister has tasked him with preparing the DPR within three months and securing approval from the state government. The proposed corridors are set to be undertaken as a joint venture between Central and State governments under Phase-II ‘B’, similar to Phase-II ‘A’.
Reddy stated that they would promptly initiate the DPR and compile the necessary documentation.
The state government is currently awaiting the Centre's nod for Phase-II ‘A’, which includes five corridors covering 76.4 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 24,269 crore.
All five proposed corridors under Part-A of Phase-II will extend three corridors from the first phase. The anticipated daily ridership for the second phase is projected to reach 7.96 lakh by 2028.
The first phase of the Hyderabad Metro, encompassing three heavily trafficked corridors and spanning 69 km, was completed at a cost of Rs. 22,148 crores. It stands as the world's largest Metro Rail initiative in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, with approximately five lakh passengers relying on it for their daily travel.
