New Delhi, Sep 4 (NationPress) The Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL), an innovative professional circuit that allows men and women to compete on an equal footing, is set to commence on September 10 in Chandigarh. The inaugural IGPL Tour was launched by former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh in New Delhi last Thursday.
During the launch, IGPL co-founder Yuvraj Singh remarked, "The life of a golfer is challenging. Competing in tournaments requires making the cut to earn money and cover expenses.
The IGPL is creating an opportunity for the younger generation, alleviating the financial pressures they face. The initiatives being undertaken at the grassroots level are crucial. One can liken the IGPL to the IPL, as it could revolutionize golf similar to how IPL transformed cricket.
"This is a comprehensive IGPL tour, which will be succeeded by a dynamic IGPL League featuring both men and women competing together. Promoting equality in sports is vital, and I believe it will reshape the landscape of golf in India. Significant efforts have been made by stakeholders behind the scenes to foster the sport, and I look forward to witnessing the success of emerging golfers. With the Olympics approaching, I am optimistic about our players winning medals.”
In conjunction with the tour's launch, IGPL revealed a significant partnership with the Asian Tour, the official governing body for professional golf in the region, allowing IGPL players to compete with top Asian players at the Asian Tour event in India this November at the Kensville Golf & Country Club.
