New Delhi, April 2 (NationPress) The India Golf Premier League (IGPL) has officially unveiled the complete rosters for its ten franchises, showcasing some of the most promising players in the sport. This pivotal moment in IGPL's evolution brings together talented golfers from around the world as they prepare to join their teams for the upcoming season.

The announcement took place at an elegant event held at The Oberoi, New Delhi, featuring cricket icon Yuvraj Singh alongside Uttam Singh Mundy, the IGPL's CEO. Mundy emphasized the importance of promoting golf to enhance player development and attract tourism to India, while Yuvraj praised the introduction of a team structure in a sport traditionally seen as individualistic.

During the event, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Minister for Tourism in India, expressed his sincerest congratulations to IGPL for its ambitious plan to generate US$2 billion in investments aimed at developing world-class golf tourism sites across the country.

Shekhawat characterized this commitment as a transformative moment for Indian sports tourism, underscoring India's rise as a premier global destination.

In his remarks, Union Minister Shekhawat stated, “The IGPL’s dedication to infusing two billion dollars into golf tourism infrastructure transcends mere sports; it represents a strategic enhancement to Brand India. Countries like Mauritius, Vietnam, and South Africa illustrate how golf can turn landscapes into desirable global destinations, attracting affluent visitors and consistent tourism revenue. IGPL is positioning India to lead this narrative in Asia.

“The vision of Prime Minister Modi for Viksit Bharat 2047 necessitates the establishment of infrastructure that draws global investments and creates sustainable employment opportunities.”

Upcoming Season Highlights

The season is set to feature 15 events; ten of which will occur in India across the franchises' home cities, with five international events planned. The initial three international venues include Mauritius, South Africa, and Congo, scheduled for later this month.

Each franchise will comprise four players. Players will vie for individual prizes totaling ₹1.5 crore at each event while also representing their teams. The best two scores from each team daily will contribute to their overall standings, with points accumulated throughout the season determining the top three teams for final rewards.

Yuvraj Singh, co-founder of IGPL, remarked: “The team format will inject excitement into the game with its dynamic pace. I am eager to witness the growth plans for a sport with immense potential.”

Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO of IGPL, added: “We are proud to host 15 events over the year. The intervals between IGPL events will allow our players to participate in international competitions within the International Series, Asian Tour, and other global circuits. Our aim is to see them excel at the highest levels, including the International Series and the LIV Golf League.”

Mundy also stressed IGPL’s commitment to advancing the sport, stating, “We will enhance the golfing ecosystem by increasing the availability of golf courses and driving ranges, making the sport accessible to everyone. Our ‘Golf on Wheels’ initiative will deploy large vehicles equipped with gear and coaches to schools, encouraging grassroots participation.”
