New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) India’s goal of hosting the centennial edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2030 encounters significant competition as Commonwealth Sport has officially acknowledged receiving expressions of interest (EOIs) from seven nations and territories spanning four continents.
This elite team of 10 amateur golfers, selected from across the sub-continent, is gearing up for the upcoming German International Amateur, set to take place from May 1 to 4 at the Berliner Golf & Country Club Motzener in Mittenwalde.
The amateurs taking part in the national squad camp include Arin Ahuja, Rakshit Dahiya, Sukhman Singh, Kanav Chauhan, Varun Muthappa, Ayan Gupta, Jaiveer, Deepak Yadav, Sandeep Yadav, and Vinamra Anand. The Indian Golf Union (IGU) initiated the National Squad System last year in preparation for the Paris Olympic Games, aiming to provide exceptional training in various aspects of the sport.
During the event, IGU Director General Major Gen. Bibhuti Bhushan (Retd) stated, “This camp is a significant step towards establishing a robust and united national team. Our emphasis is not solely on skills but also on cultivating mentally resilient, physically fit, and team-oriented golfers who are prepared to compete and excel on the global stage.”
The camp has been crafted as a comprehensive training program, concentrating not only on technical proficiency but also on holistic development. It encompasses specialized sessions in physiotherapy, physical fitness, sports psychology, and nutrition. Furthermore, there is a strong focus on fostering team spirit and camaraderie, which are vital qualities for competing internationally.
Reflecting on his experience, Sukhman Singh remarked, “I am genuinely thankful to the Indian Golf Union for this incredible opportunity to participate in the national squad camp. With top-notch trainers, expert physiotherapists, nutritionists, and mental health professionals, the committee has established a world-class setup. This camp is aiding us golfers in our growth within the sport, enhancing our strength both physically and mentally.”
He continued, “I would also like to express my gratitude to the council for their unwavering support and encouragement, allowing us to gain international experience by competing with some of the finest amateurs globally. I am excited to be part of this journey and eager to make our country proud.”
This camp serves as a crucial platform in preparing our athletes for international representation. Performances here will significantly influence the final selection of players who will represent the national colors in forthcoming international events.
Another promising amateur, Arin Ahuja, expressed, “Participating in the Indian Golf Union’s national squad camp for the golf team has been an extraordinary opportunity. With access to some of India’s finest professionals—a physiotherapist, psychologist, nutritionist, physical trainer, and swing coach—we are receiving personalized, one-on-one guidance that enhances every facet of our game. This holistic approach is not only refining our skills but also equipping us mentally and physically for upcoming challenges. I am confident it will prove immensely beneficial for our future tournaments.”
