During his visit, the Secretary General will engage with senior government officials, industry leaders, and the seafaring community to explore further strategies aimed at supporting seafarers, safeguarding the marine environment, and achieving decarbonization in shipping.
Ahead of his arrival, Dominguez emphasized India’s crucial position on the global stage, notably in supplying a substantial portion of the two million seafarers who facilitate international trade, as well as its leadership in ship recycling and sustainable port development.
He stated: “India is a significant maritime nation with a profound seafaring tradition. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with India’s maritime leaders and community to enhance skills, boost green growth and job creation, and advance sustainability in shipping across the board.”
Dominguez will participate in the 2025 Green Shipping Conclave at the Maritime Training Institute in Powai, Mumbai, which aims to unite industry pioneers, policymakers, and technology experts to deliberate on advancements in alternative fuels, eco-friendly ship technologies, sustainable port operations, and financial strategies.
He plans to address seafarers at local maritime institutions, tour the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), and engage in policy discussions with a diverse range of stakeholders.
