Srinagar, July 3 (NationPress) The inauguration of Baltal Yatri Niwas and the Disaster Management facility will take place on July 4, led by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. These facilities are designed to address the needs of the Amarnath Yatra.
In addition, three more facilities are underway in Pahalgam, Bijbehara in the Valley, and Sidhra in the Jammu division. This initiative is part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC).
These developments not only support the annual Amarnath Yatra but also offer continuous benefits to local communities, including permanent healthcare services.
The Baltal Yatri Niwas and Disaster Management Complex, covering an area of 6,315 square metres, is now fully operational and includes a Yatri Niwas, a VIP guest house, security infrastructure, and disaster-response facilities.
Construction is ongoing at Nunwan (8,500 sq. m) and Bijbehara (7,640 sq. m), with both projects set for completion by September 2025.
The Sidhra complex in Jammu, intended to be a key hub for boarding, emergency management, and logistical coordination, is slated for completion by September 2026.
In 2024, ONGC will also establish permanent 100-bed hospitals at Baltal (Ganderbal) and Chandanwari (Anantnag), in partnership with the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
These facilities, which will feature ICUs and accommodations for staff, will replace former temporary medical camps and will operate as year-round Primary Health Centres for both yatris and local residents.
The Yatra commenced on Thursday, with hundreds of yatris making their way to the sacred cave shrine from central Kashmir, Baltal, and Pahalgam base camps.
Spanning 36 days, the Yatra will conclude on August 9, aligning with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivities.
The trek from the base camp to the cave shrine at Baltal is 14 km, whereas the trek from Pahalgam stretches 46 km.
