Authorized by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and co-hosted by two-time Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and JSW Sports, this event has drawn top-tier talent from around the world.
Among the prominent athletes are Neeraj Chopra himself and Thomas Rohler, the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medallist, alongside a competitive international lineup.
With the pleasant Bengaluru weather as a backdrop, elite javelin throwers were observed in their final training sessions on Friday, meticulously honing their skills ahead of what is anticipated to be a high-pressure competition.
More than merely a sporting event, the Neeraj Chopra Classic is a manifestation of a burgeoning movement — one that is shaping the trajectory of Indian sports and igniting inspiration in the youth.
Earlier, the stadium buzzed with vitality as aspiring young athletes trained with unwavering focus on the auxiliary grounds. Meanwhile, school children filled the stands, eagerly awaiting a glimpse of their international heroes.
To prepare for the event, significant renovations have been made to the stadium. Several seating areas have been upgraded, corporate and VVIP boxes have been added to the North Stand, and a pitch-side hospitality zone has been established for fans to enjoy an intimate view of the runway and infield action. An entertainment stage has also been set up in the South Stand, and the main turf has been newly re-laid to ensure optimal conditions for the athletes.
As Chopra prepares to take on the role of organizer for this event, he met with the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, expressing gratitude for the state government's unwavering support towards the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to the Government of Karnataka, the KOA, and the DYES for their instrumental role in elevating the stadium to international standards. Their dedication has enabled us to offer world-class facilities for the athletes and an enriching experience for the fans.
“A lot of effort has gone into the renovations, and I’m particularly thankful to Honourable Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Dr. K. Govindaraj, and all the officials involved. This will undeniably be a memorable event for all,” Chopra remarked at a press conference organized by the KOA and the DYES ahead of the marquee event.
