Rio de Janeiro, Dec 12 (NationPress) Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi visited the Itaguai Naval Complex in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, receiving a ceremonial welcome from Admiral Alexandre Rabello de Faria of the Brazilian Navy and being briefed on Brazil’s Prosub submarine programme.

During this visit, Admiral Tripathi received insights into the capabilities that facilitate the construction, life-cycle sustainment, and technological enhancements of frontline naval platforms.

As part of his official engagement in Brazil, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi toured the Itaguai Naval Complex, which includes a prominent naval shipyard and a leading metal-structures manufacturing unit in Brazil. This visit underscores India’s dedication to enhancing maritime industrial collaboration with crucial global partners. The CNS was warmly welcomed by Admiral Alexandre Rabello de Faria and received details about Brazil’s esteemed PROSUB submarine initiative, as noted by a spokesperson from the Indian Navy on X.

At this premier shipbuilding and maintenance center, CNS was updated on the capabilities that support the construction, life-cycle sustainability, and technological upgrades of frontline naval assets. These engagements further solidified the strategic alignment between India and Brazil in shipbuilding, fostering self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta), secure supply chains, maritime capability enhancement, and collaborative frameworks that contribute to a stable, rules-based maritime environment, added the spokesperson.

On Thursday, Admiral Tripathi held discussions with Celso Amorim, Chief Advisor to the Brazilian President, and Jose Mucio Monteiro, the Defence Minister, focusing on potential collaborations in the defense sector and capacity-building initiatives to bolster shared security goals and long-term interoperability.

The Indian Navy spokesperson shared on X, stating, “During Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi’s official visit to Brazil, he met with Celso Amorim, Chief Advisor to the President, and Jose Mucio Monteiro, Minister of Defence of Brazil. The dialogues provided a comprehensive examination of the expanding defense collaboration between India and Brazil, emphasizing the enhancement of strategic cooperation, joint operational frameworks, training opportunities, maritime security strategies, and increased coordination in Maritime Domain Awareness.”

During the discussions, the two parties addressed regional and global dynamics, including the South Atlantic, Indo-Pacific, and the collective roles of the Global South, emphasizing their shared vision for a secure and stable rules-based order.

“These high-level interactions reaffirmed the strengthening strategic alignment and mutual commitment to elevate India–Brazil defense cooperation under the spirit of Bridges of Friendship,” the statement continued.

On Wednesday, Admiral Tripathi met with Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen, the Commander of the Brazilian Navy, to discuss enhancing the maritime cooperation between the two nations.

According to the Indian Navy, discussions focused on operational collaboration, training exchanges, hydrographic cooperation, information sharing, and ways to improve maritime domain awareness.

The dialogue also covered expanding cooperation in defense industry, technology development, innovation, sharing best practices, and capacity building between the two naval forces.

This high-level engagement reaffirmed both navies' mutual determination to strengthen strategic alignment and deepen the India-Brazil maritime partnership, contributing to stability in the global maritime landscape of the Global South.

In a bid to fortify the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership, Admiral Tripathi is on an official visit to Brazil from December 9-12.

The Ministry of Defence indicated that the Navy Chief’s visit reinforces the Indian Navy's commitment to enhancing collaboration with the Brazilian Navy in maritime security, professional exchanges, and capacity building, thereby contributing to global maritime stability.
