What Were the Highlights of India Navy Chief's Visit to Japan's Maritime Self Defence Force?

Tokyo, Aug 2 (NationPress) During his visit to the Fleet Headquarters and the Maritime Operations Centre in Tokyo on Saturday, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, received an overview of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) regarding its organisational framework, aims, and operational duties.

This visit marks a significant step towards fostering deeper collaboration and mutual understanding in shared maritime interests between India and Japan.

In a statement on X, the Indian Navy highlighted, "Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, CNS, toured JMSDF's Fleet Headquarters and the Maritime Operations Centre, which is pivotal for Japan's maritime domain awareness. He was informed about the JMSDF's structure, along with its objectives and functions. This visit and the ensuing discussions in Japan are set to strengthen mutual understanding in crucial maritime areas."

Previously, Admiral Tripathi engaged with Japanese Defence Minister General Nakatani to deliberate on enhancing defence cooperation between the two nations.

Both countries reiterated their dedication to enhancing strategic relations.

The Indian Navy further reported, "During his ongoing visit to Japan, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi met with General Nakatani, Japan's Defence Minister. The discussions centered on bolstering bilateral Defence Cooperation, promoting technological and defence industry collaboration, and improving training and personnel exchanges between the two nations and their navies."

"This interaction reinforced the shared resolve to tackle emerging security challenges and to cultivate closer defence relations. This is a crucial move in strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Japan," it noted.

Earlier, India's Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, hosted a dinner in honour of the Indian Navy chief in Tokyo, attended by Defence Minister Nakatani and JMSDF Chief of Staff, Admiral Saito Akira.

The CNS is on an official four-day visit to Japan from July 30 to August 2, aimed at consolidating bilateral defence relations in light of the deepening Special Strategic and Global Partnership, focusing on maritime collaboration.

During this period, he is set to engage in bilateral discussions with senior Japanese officials, including Vice-Minister of Defence Masuda Kazuo, and hold a meeting with Admiral Akira.

He will also visit JMSDF units and interact with the Commander-in-Chief of the Self-Defence Fleet at Funakoshi JMSDF Base.

According to the Indian Defence Ministry, Admiral Tripathi's engagements in Japan are expected to further enhance the bonds of friendship and defence cooperation, paving the way for improved mutual understanding in key areas of shared strategic and maritime interests.
