Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Toronto, Jan 7 (NationPress) The 'One Stop Centre for Women' (OSCW) has officially commenced operations at the Consulate General of India in Toronto, Canada, providing vital support to Indian women in distress.
As stated by the Indian Consulate General, this centre aims to deliver easily accessible assistance to women while creating a secure and inclusive atmosphere.
In an interview with Radio Canada International, Indian Acting Consul General in Toronto, Kapidhwaja Pratap Singh, emphasized that the OSCW serves as a crucial link between Canadian and Indian authorities, enabling Indian women to obtain legal, financial, and emotional aid.
"Women in Canada often require legal, financial, and other forms of assistance in cases such as domestic violence, dowry, and exploitation. This centre will provide those essential services," Singh remarked.
When asked about the centre's methodology, Singh pointed out that while numerous organizations in Canada offer valuable support, cultural and social barriers can hinder women from seeking help, leaving them without necessary resources.
"In addition to permanent resident women of Indian descent residing in Canada, visitors, workers, and students will also be able to utilize this centre," he noted.
Singh confirmed that the initiative has garnered significant attention, revealing that over a dozen women have already approached the centre with various issues within just a few days of its opening.
He also highlighted that the OSCW would offer financial support to women in need.
Established on December 26, 2025, the Consulate General of India in Toronto initiated the OSCW to assist Indian women dealing with distress, addressing issues such as domestic violence, abuse, family conflicts, abandonment, exploitation, and legal hurdles.
"The One Stop Centre will deliver coordinated, beneficiary-focused assistance by connecting affected women with timely and appropriate support pathways, including immediate counselling, psycho-social support facilitation, and legal advice, while also helping women access relevant community and social services in Canada. All interventions by the OSCW will adhere to local laws in Canada," stated a release from the Indian Consulate General in Toronto.
