New Delhi, Sep 5 (NationPress) Emphasizing its commitment to ending the turmoil in Ukraine, India voiced appreciation for the recent strides made towards achieving lasting peace in the region, expressing optimism that all involved parties would engage in a constructive manner.
"We commend all recent initiatives aimed at bringing peace to Ukraine. Our hope is that all parties will act constructively. India stands for a swift resolution to the conflict and the establishment of long-term peace," stated Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during a weekly press conference in New Delhi.
Earlier this week, on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a bilateral dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, acknowledged the recent endeavors to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. PM Modi remarked that humanity as a whole desires an end to the war and the restoration of peace and stability in the region.
“We appreciate all recent efforts aimed at conflict resolution. Our expectation is that all parties involved will continue to advance constructively. It is imperative that we find ways to conclude the conflict swiftly to restore stability and peace in the region. This is the collective wish of humanity,” PM Modi emphasized.
In his initial remarks at the SCO Summit, Putin acknowledged India's and other strategic partners' contributions towards facilitating a resolution to the Ukraine crisis.
“We hold in high regard the efforts and proposals from China, India, and our other strategic partners aimed at resolving the Ukrainian crisis,” Putin stated during the SCO Summit.
PM Modi has consistently underscored India's stance for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict, affirming New Delhi's support for all related efforts.
Last week, PM Modi received a call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who briefed him about negotiations with US President Donald Trump in Washington that involved European leaders.
According to Zelensky, during their “constructive and significant conversation,” India expressed its readiness to make necessary efforts and “send appropriate signals to Russia” and other leaders during meetings at the SCO summit.
PM Modi shared that he and Zelensky discussed the ongoing conflict, focusing on its humanitarian implications and efforts to restore peace and stability.
“India fully supports all efforts in this regard,” PM Modi stated on X.
On August 18, Putin had contacted Prime Minister Modi to share his evaluation of his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska.
