Tianjin, Sep 1 (NationPress) During a bilateral discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his support for the recent initiatives aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict. He emphasized that humanity collectively desires an end to the war and a return to peace and stability.
PM Modi urged all parties involved to move forward with the resolution in a constructive manner. He stated, "We appreciate the recent efforts made towards resolving the conflict. It is crucial for all parties to take constructive steps to end the conflict promptly and restore regional stability and peace. This is the collective call of humanity."
After their meeting, Modi shared on X, "Had a fruitful discussion with President Putin during the SCO Summit in Tianjin."
Both leaders explored avenues to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade, fertilizers, space, security, and culture.
"We shared insights on regional and global issues, including the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis. Our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership is a crucial element for regional and global stability," PM Modi remarked.
Earlier, both leaders traveled together to the meeting venue.
In his opening speech at the SCO Summit, Putin acknowledged the valuable contributions from India and other strategic partners in seeking a resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
"We greatly appreciate the efforts and proposals from India, China, and our other strategic partners aimed at settling the Ukrainian crisis," Putin noted at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
The Russian President also referred to the "understandings" he reached with US President Donald Trump during an August summit, which he believed could pave the way for peace in Ukraine.
PM Modi has persistently affirmed India's stance for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict, supporting all initiatives in this regard.
Significantly, upon arriving in China from Japan on Saturday, PM Modi received a call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who updated him on ongoing negotiations with US President Donald Trump involving European leaders.
Zelensky conveyed that during their "productive and essential conversation", India expressed its readiness to make necessary efforts and "send the appropriate message to Russia" and other leaders during meetings at the SCO summit.
