New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress): The startup ecosystem in India has experienced remarkable growth, as highlighted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), which has documented 201,335 startups eligible for incentives under the Startup India initiative. These startups have generated over 2.1 million jobs nationwide, according to a comprehensive year-end review released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Wednesday.

In alignment with the Nari Shakti initiative, the review emphasizes the vital role of female entrepreneurs in reshaping India’s startup environment. Notably, over 48% of registered startups have at least one female director.

The report also reveals that domestic patent filings by Indian innovators surged by 425% from 2014 to 2024, propelling India’s position in the Global Innovation Index to the 38th rank in the 2025 assessment.

Moreover, the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is set to revolutionize e-commerce in India by making it more inclusive and accessible, thereby fostering innovation among all participants in the ecosystem. As of October 2025, ONDC has processed over 326 million orders, with 18.2 million orders completed in October alone, averaging approximately 590,000 daily transactions.

The One District One Product (ODOP) initiative seeks to promote balanced regional development by selecting, branding, and marketing one product from each district. Over 1,240 products have been identified across 775 districts.

The review highlights the significance of PM Ekta Malls, which provide financial support to states for establishing unity malls aimed at promoting ODOP products. Out of the 27 states whose Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for PM Ekta Mall have been approved, 25 states have issued work orders, and construction is underway in most states.

To improve the business environment, more than 47,000 compliances have been streamlined, and 4,458 provisions have been decriminalized. So far, around 829,750 approvals have been granted through the National Single Window System.

In alignment with India’s goal of becoming Aatmanirbhar, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have been introduced for 14 key sectors with an allocation of Rs. 1.97 lakh crore. Actual investments exceeding Rs. 1.88 lakh crore have been realized by June 2025, leading to an incremental production of over Rs. 17 lakh crore and the creation of more than 1.23 million jobs.

Exports under the PLI schemes have surpassed Rs. 7.5 lakh crore, with significant contributions from sectors including electronics, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, and food processing.

Initiated in October 2021, PM GatiShakti (PMGS) serves as a National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, integrating infrastructure planning across various ministries to eliminate silos. A total of 57 ministries and departments have been integrated into PMGS.

Similarly, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), created under the National Logistics Policy, serves as a digital integration layer facilitating seamless data exchange among logistics stakeholders. ULIP is currently integrated with 44 systems from 11 ministries.

Point of View

Particularly through female leadership and regional initiatives, the future looks promising. This sustained momentum not only creates jobs but also enhances India's position on the global stage.
