New Delhi, Nov 12 (NationPress) Maninder Sidhu, the Canadian Minister of International Trade, is set to arrive in New Delhi starting Wednesday to seek avenues for enhancing trade and investment connections between Canada and India.

His itinerary includes a visit to Visakhapatnam on November 14 to participate in the Confederation of Indian Industry Partnership Summit, as mentioned by the Office of the Minister of International Trade.

Throughout his stay, Minister Sidhu aims to exhibit Canada's dedication to fostering and expanding the well-established commercial relationship between Canada and India. Key sectors include artificial intelligence, clean technology, and digital industries, while also discovering new collaborative opportunities that will benefit both workers and businesses.

According to an official statement from Sidhu, “This trip to India will emphasize Canada’s goal of diversifying our trade connections and drawing in new investments.”

“As one of the fastest-growing major economies, India presents substantial opportunities for Canadian enterprises and workers. Our commercial relationship is continuously evolving—bilateral trade exceeded $30 billion in 2024—and there is even more potential on the horizon.

“By enhancing cooperation in areas such as energy, clean technology, artificial intelligence, and agriculture, we can unveil new commercial prospects, stimulate innovation, and create more robust and secure supply chains that promote mutual prosperity for both nations.”

Minister Sidhu, who hails from Punjab, previously served as a parliamentary secretary to International Development Minister Karina Gould.

A member of the Liberal Party, Sidhu has been re-elected for a third term in Brampton East during the April 28 federal election.

As Canada bolsters its economic ties in the Indo-Pacific region, India stands as a vital ally under a comprehensive regional strategy.

In 2024, India ranked as Canada’s seventh-largest trading partner for goods and services, with two-way trade valued at $30.9 billion.

Canada’s commercial strategies in India align with the country’s policy goals and sectors where Canada holds a competitive edge, such as agriculture, clean technology, digital industries, and infrastructure.

With projections indicating that India will soon become the world’s third-largest economy, Canada is dedicated to nurturing and expanding its established commercial relationships with India, particularly in agriculture, critical minerals, and energy.
