Brussels, June 24 (NationPress) Following the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel by US President Donald Trump after 12 days of military conflict, numerous leaders have expressed their approval, deeming it a crucial step towards peace and stability in the region.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen praised the decision, labeling it a vital action for maintaining regional stability.
"Europe welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire by President Trump. It's an important step towards restoring stability in a region marked by tension. This should be our collective priority. We urge Iran to engage sincerely in a credible diplomatic process, as the negotiating table remains the only viable path forward," the European Commission chief remarked on X.
These comments were made after Trump confirmed that the bilateral ceasefire between Iran and Israel began on Tuesday, urging both parties to show restraint.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also endorsed the announcement, stating that the Kingdom appreciates the efforts made to de-escalate tensions.
"The Kingdom anticipates that all parties will commit to de-escalation in the near future, avoiding any use or threat of force, and hopes this agreement will contribute to restoring security and stability in the region, while preventing further escalation risks," the ministry stated.
Saudi Arabia reiterated its strong position in favor of dialogue and diplomatic approaches as the preferred means to resolve regional conflicts, founded on the principles of respecting state sovereignty and promoting security, stability, and prosperity both regionally and globally.
The ceasefire follows nearly two weeks of escalating violence initiated by Israel's 'Operation Rising Lion', which targeted significant Iranian military and nuclear sites. In retaliation, Iran conducted missile strikes on Israeli cities and later on US military bases in Qatar and Iraq.
