New Delhi, Nov 11 (NationPress) Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is of the opinion that the forthcoming two-Test series will present a significant challenge for the current World Test Champions, South Africa. He remarked that “battling against India on their home turf is always a daunting task, as they are an exceptionally strong team in the subcontinent.”
The two teams are gearing up for a multi-format series, where Gill and his team will host the Proteas for two Tests and three ODIs. Following this, the Suryakumar Yadav-led squad will engage in five T20Is against the South African team.
The opening Test is scheduled to take place at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the hometown of Ganguly, who also serves as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
“The first Test kicks off in Kolkata in a matter of days, and I anticipate a challenging tour for South Africa. Competing against India in India is far from easy. India demonstrates great strength in subcontinental conditions, and they’ve been formidable even abroad lately. I eagerly await the Test at Eden Gardens. South Africa is a capable side, promising a high-quality showdown,” Ganguly shared during an interview on JioStar.
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj also expressed his thoughts ahead of the Test series, stating, “This series is vital for the new WTC cycle, particularly since South Africa holds the title of defending champions. Although they had a 1-1 draw with Pakistan, we’re optimistic due to our own strong performance, having fostered a positive atmosphere and excelling in England, and winning against the West Indies.”
“Personally, I’m in good rhythm while bowling and aiming to maximize this opportunity. Confronting strong teams reveals areas for improvement, and I’m genuinely excited for this challenge,” he added.
