Isak Andic, Founder of Mango Clothing Brand, Dies After Falling from Cliff in Spain

Madrid, Dec 15 (NationPress) Isak Andic, the visionary behind the global fashion chain Mango, tragically lost his life after falling from a cliff in Spain, the company confirmed.

The 71-year-old billionaire reportedly slipped and plunged 150 meters while walking with his wife and son in the Salitre de Collbato caves, near Barcelona, at around 1:00 PM local time (1200 GMT).

"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Isak Andic, our non-executive chairman and founder of Mango, due to an accident this Saturday," stated Mango Chief Executive Toni Ruiz, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

Ruiz commended Andic's lifelong commitment to Mango, stating that his absence 'creates a significant void'.

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez honored Andic on social media, praising his "tireless efforts and business insight that elevated a Spanish brand to the status of a global fashion powerhouse."

Originally from Istanbul, Isak Andic moved to Spain from Turkey at the age of 13. He began his career by selling T-shirts to classmates, which led to the opening of Mango's first store in Barcelona in 1984.

At the time of his passing, Andic's net worth was estimated at $4.5 billion, according to Forbes.

Having moved to Catalonia from Turkey with his family in the 1960s, Andic founded Mango in 1984, evolving it into one of the leading fashion brands worldwide. Under his leadership, Mango experienced rapid growth, first opening stores throughout Spain and then expanding internationally, starting with Portugal and France.

Mango operates 2,700 retail outlets across 120 markets worldwide. In 2023, the company reached a record sales figure of 3.1 billion euros (approximately $3.2 billion). Currently, it is in the process of expanding its footprint in the US, with plans to open 65 stores by the end of 2025.
