ISL 2024-25: Brison Fernandes Scores Again as FC Goa Triumphs 4-2 Over Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 4 (NationPress) FC Goa emerged victorious against Odisha FC with a score of 4-2 during the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 at the Kalinga Stadium on Saturday night. The Gaurs currently hold the third position in the league table, accumulating 25 points, and have stretched their unbeaten away streak to seven matches. Meanwhile, Odisha FC is still searching for their first win in their last 11 encounters against the Gaurs.
Brison Fernandes continued his impressive form by netting two goals for the second consecutive match. He set the pace for the visitors early on, combining with Iker Guarrotxena in the box to exploit the space left by the Odisha FC defense. After a heavy touch from Odisha defender Mourtada Fall, the ball fell perfectly for Brison, who skillfully controlled it with his chest before firing it into the bottom right corner, scoring the opening goal in the eighth minute.
The Juggernauts retaliated when Jerry Lalrinzuala drew a foul inside the penalty area. Celebrating his 150th appearance in the ISL, he became the 10th player to reach this milestone. Ahmed Jahouh then converted a panenka-style penalty in the 29th minute, catching goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari off-guard and leveling the score.
Before halftime, FC Goa regained the lead in stoppage time. A swift attack led by Iker drew the Odisha defense's attention, allowing Udanta Singh to capitalize on a loose ball on the right flank and score with a precise finish, putting the Gaurs ahead 2-1.
In the 53rd minute, Brison showcased his talent with a stunning solo goal. After receiving a pass from defender Sandesh Jhingan, he turned and unleashed a powerful shot into the top right corner from outside the box, marking his brace.
Building on their momentum, FC Goa continued to press forward. Iker, now on the right, attracted multiple defenders before attempting to cross to an unmarked Brison. However, Amey Ranawade inadvertently redirected the cross into his own net in the 56th minute.
Despite having several chances, Odisha FC found the net too late. They scored their second goal via a header from Jerry Mawihmingthanga, who converted a cross from Thoiba Singh from close range, but it wasn’t enough as the Gaurs secured all three points.
FC Goa's next match is against Hyderabad FC on January 8, while Odisha FC will face Chennaiyin FC on January 9.
